About Eric M. Thomson, MD

Dr. Eric Thomson is a primary care physician board certified in family medicine. He joined Inova Health System in 2020 and has been practicing since 2005.

Dr. Thomson grew up in Northern Utah and received his BS degree in microbiology from Weber State University. While in college, he worked as a ski instructor in the winter and a wildland firefighter in the summer. He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves as a Hospital Corpsman. Before going to medical school, he worked as a pathologist assistant, industrial hygienist and emergency preparedness specialist with both civilian and military organizations.

Following Dr. Thomson’s residency training with Virginia Commonwealth University/Fairfax Family Practice, he completed specialized fellowship training in sports medicine with Fairfax Family Practice, where he worked closely with several professional and collegiate organizations including the Washington Nationals, D.C. United, and the U.S. Military Academy at West Point and George Mason University.

Dr. Thomson has completed several dozen ultramarathon distance events, including Ironman Maryland, the Grand to Grand 273 km self-supported stage race and five 100 mile trail races. He also provides medical support to local running clubs.
