About Helay Said-Miakhel, MD

Dr. Helay Said-Miakhel is a primary care physician board certified in family medicine. She joined Inova in 2026 and has been practicing since 2024.

Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Said-Miakhel was a family medicine physician at Sentara Forest Lakes Family Medicine in Charlottesville, VA.

Dr. Said-Miakhel’s clinical areas of interest include preventive medicine, obesity and weight management, women’s health, diabetes, hypertension, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and the management of chronic medical conditions. She particularly enjoys helping patients understand their health risks early and working with them to prevent disease progression rather than treating problems after they arise.

Dr. Said-Miakhel enjoys the variety that comes with family medicine and caring for patients across different ages, backgrounds, and stages of life. She values the opportunity to develop long-term relationships with her patients and their families and to care for them through both acute concerns and chronic conditions. She believes good patient care starts with listening, and she wants her patients to feel heard, respected, and comfortable asking questions. She practices evidence-based medicine while recognizing that every patient is different. Dr. Said-Miakhel believes the best treatment plan is one developed in partnership with her patients and takes into account each patient’s medical needs, goals, values, and individual circumstances.

Dr. Said-Miakhel’s goal is to build lasting relationships with her patients and to be someone they trust with their health. She focuses strongly on prevention, early intervention, and patient education. She wants her patients to understand not only what she and her team are doing, but also why they are doing it, so that they can be active participants in their care.

In her free time, Dr. Said-Miakhel enjoys spending time with her family and three children, working on interior decorating and home projects, pottery, listening to music, watching movies and television shows from different countries and cultures, and cooking when inspiration strikes.
