Dr. Jacqueline Poole is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary medicine and critical care medicine. She joined Inova in 2026 and has been practicing since 2011.
Prior to joining Inova, Dr. Poole worked in Omaha, NE, where she was a pulmonologist and intensivist at CommonSpirit Health; assistant professor, key core faculty, and associate program director for the department of pulmonary, critical care, and sleep medicine at Creighton University School of Medicine; and Medical Director of Pulmonary and Critical Care at Select Specialty Hospital.
Dr. Poole’s clinical interests focus on inpatient pulmonary care, particularly caring for patients with tracheostomies, pleural effusions, and complex multi-organ failure driven by pulmonary disease. Her interests are derived from her inpatient experience and how to manage complexities post-discharge. Dr. Poole has a special personal interest in advance care planning, including open discussions with patients and families about their illness, progression, social needs, limitations, treatment options, advance directives, code status, and end-of-life care. Additionally, she is committed to helping patients regain functional independence over time, especially after hospitalization or disease exacerbation.
Dr. Poole enjoys working with all patients, especially those with a new diagnosis who need help with education, planning, treatment and prevention; older patients with COPD, asthma, pleural effusions, or interstitial lung disease related to autoimmune or occupational causes. She is passionate about lung cancer prevention and guiding patients who are looking for a holistic approach to managing their disease through lifestyle modifications.
Dr. Poole’s philosophy is to support each patient’s pulmonary health so they can enjoy their daily lives. Her goal is to ensure all patients understand their condition and management options, and have plans for each step of care. She strives to prepare patients for every challenge while focusing on recovery – ultimately bridging palliative and pulmonary medicine approaches.
In her free time, Dr. Poole loves being outdoors, hiking, exploring new cultures, traveling, learning new things, and spending time with her husband, friends, and family. Additionally, Dr. Poole can never turn away a good mystery novel.
