Dr. Joe Schwartz is a board-certified family physician, who joined Inova with over 16 years of clinical experience as a Navy flight surgeon and primary care physician. Most recently, Dr. Schwartz has provided medical oversight of Inova contract clinics in the Washington, DC, metropolitan area, seeing ambulatory and occupational health patients.

Dr. Schwartz is in his eighth year in the Navy Reserve, serving the Marine Corps as a flight surgeon and reserve affairs deputy at Headquarters Marine Corps Health Services. This is his 20th year in the Navy, the majority of which he spent in support of fixed-wing squadrons out of Whidbey Island, WA and the Blue Angels out of Pensacola, FL. After graduating from New York Medical College in 2009, he completed an intern year in general surgery at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, followed by a family medicine residency in the Shenandoah Valley.

A native and resident of Arlington, Dr. Schwartz happily joined Inova in 2020. While his father was an aeronautical engineer and his mother was in legislative affairs, he followed his Georgetown-based godfather, Dr. Bob Santangelo, into medicine. Joe loves being married to a local from Rehoboth, is engaged in scouting and sports with his three sons, and enjoys piano, biking and tennis, with not-so-long-term goals of private aviation and mountaineering.
