About Mateo Ziu, MD
Dr. Mateo Ziu is board certified in neurological surgery. He joined Inova Medical Group with more than 12 years of clinical experience and serves as the medical director of Inova Brain and Spine Tumor Program and medical director of neuro-oncology at Inova Schar Cancer Institute. He has completed a fellowship and gained advance training in the surgical management of brain, spine and pituitary tumors. He has a keen interest in the delivery of multidisciplinary evidence-based care for patients with benign and malignant nervous system tumors. He collaborates with world-wide clinical investigators in multiple clinical trials for patients with these tumors.
Before joining Inova Medical Group Neurosurgery, Dr. Ziu practiced in Austin, TX where he was the Medical Director of the Brain and Spine Tumor Program and Pituitary Care Center of Seton Brain and Spine Institute. He was an Assistant Professor at the Dell Medical School at University of Texas in Austin.
Dr. Ziu graduated from the University of Bari School of Medicine and Surgery in Bari, Italy. He completed a research fellowship in the biology of malignant brain tumors at Brigham and Women's Hospital, an affiliate of Harvard Medical School, Boston, MA. After completion of the neurosurgical residency at the University of Texas in San Antonio, TX, he undertook a clinical fellowship in Neurosurgical Oncology at the MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX.
