About Matthew T. Freedman, MD

Dr. Matthew Freedman is a specialty care physician board certified in internal medicine and pulmonary disease. He joined Inova in 2026 after completing his pulmonary and critical care fellowship at the University of Virginia and his internal medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University.

Dr. Freedman’s clinical areas of interest include interstitial lung disease, with a particular focus on sarcoidosis. He has presented on sarcoidosis at national and international conferences, is a member of multiple sarcoidosis associations, and has authored numerous publications on the disease.

Dr. Freedman is a member of the peer-selected Gold Humanism Honor Society and models his practice on its principles of compassionate, patient-centered care, integrity, and empathetic leadership. He strives to ensure that patients understand their condition and feel actively involved in decisions about their care.

Outside the clinic, Dr. Freedman and his wife are proud parents of a son and daughter. He enjoys spending time with his family, playing sports, collecting vinyl records, and walking the family dog.
