About Michael W. Helbig, MD

Dr. Michael Helbig is a General Urologist at Inova Health System. His areas of expertise and clinical interests include the diagnosis, prevention, medical, and surgical management of kidney stones, benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), erectile dysfunction (ED), men’s health, urethral stricture disease, incontinence, overactive bladder, minimally invasive/robotic surgery, and the management of urologic cancers, including those of the kidney, upper tract, bladder, prostate, penis and testis.

Dr. Helbig graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and Immunology and a minor in Public Health from the University of Miami and received his medical degree (MD) from Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine. He then completed his internship in General Surgery and Urologic Surgical Residency at the George Washington University Hospital in Washington, DC. His training included rotations at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) National Cancer Institute with the Urologic Oncology Branch and with the Pediatric Urology team at Children’s National Medical Center (CNMC).

Dr. Helbig is a South Florida native and fluent Spanish speaker. Outside the office, he enjoys practicing mindfulness meditation, running, playing basketball and golf, cooking, and exploring the culinary scene of the DC/MD/VA area.
