Richard Krasuski, MD, FACC, FAHA, FESC, FSCAI, is the Schar Family Endowed Chair of Adult Congenital Heart Disease at Inova Schar Heart & Vascular. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Duke University Health System.

Dr. Krasuski specializes in the care of adults with congenital heart disease, ranging from common conditions such as patent foramen ovale and atrial septal defect to complex congenital heart conditions, including single-ventricle disease with Fontan palliation. His clinical interests also include pulmonary hypertension, particularly chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH), as well as valvular heart disease and other systemic complications of congenital heart disease. He performs structural and congenital heart interventions, including balloon pulmonary angioplasty for CTEPH.

Board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in adult congenital heart disease, cardiovascular disease and internal medicine, Dr. Krasuski earned his medical degree from Harvard Medical School. He completed his internal medicine residency at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and a cardiology fellowship at Duke University.

From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Krasuski served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force. During that time, he was named Researcher of the Year in 2004 and, in 2005, became the youngest finalist at the time for the Gold Headed Cane Award, recognizing excellence in academics, clinical care and research.

Dr. Krasuski led the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at Cleveland Clinic from 2005 to 2015, where he also collaborated closely with the pulmonary hypertension program. In 2013, he received the Bruce Hubbard Stewart Award in recognition of his ability to combine compassion and sensitivity with knowledge and skill in the practice of medicine. From 2015 to 2026, he directed the Adult Congenital Heart Disease program at Duke and served as director of its CTEPH program. He joined Inova in 2026 to help coordinate and advance the congenital heart disease program.

An accomplished educator and researcher, Dr. Krasuski serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for more than 20 leading medical publications. He has authored or co-authored more than 400 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts and book chapters related to his specialty interests. He has contributed to patient and physician education materials, including expert guideline documents, and has been an invited professor or lecturer at more than 100 major medical centers worldwide.

Dr. Krasuski believes in helping patients and their care teams understand their heart conditions and the full range of available treatment options. He works closely with patients, their loved ones and multidisciplinary colleagues to support the best possible quality of life.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Krasuski enjoys traveling, following sports and spending time with his family.
