Dr. Sachin Kumar is the Director of Interventional Cardiology Research at Inova and a board-certified cardiologist with advanced training in cardiovascular medicine, heart failure and transplant, and interventional/structural cardiology. He has been practicing since 2007 and joined Inova in 2025.
Prior to this, he served as Associate Professor of Medicine at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and practiced at Memorial Hermann Hospital in the Texas Medical Center.
Dr. Kumar specializes in the care of high-risk, complex cardiac patients, with a particular focus on the intersection of interventional cardiology, structural heart disease and advanced heart failure. His expertise allows him to manage patients across the full spectrum of disease, from invasive, high-risk procedures to longitudinal cardiac management, thereby bringing a comprehensive and integrated approach to care.
His research focuses on clinical trials and the development of innovative devices for coronary artery disease, structural heart disease and heart failure. He is actively involved in national registries and clinical research through leadership roles with the American College of Cardiology NCDR and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions, and he leads participation in large, multicenter clinical trials.
At the core of his work is a simple philosophy of treating every patient as a person first, to bring clarity and communicate honestly even when it’s hard, to make decisions that reflect not just what’s medically possible, but what truly matters and in a way that adds real value to their life.
