Shairna Curtis is an advanced certified hospice and palliative nurse practitioner at Inova Schar Cancer, where she played a key role in establishing and growing the outpatient palliative care clinic. With over a decade of experience at Inova serving oncology patients and families in various clinical roles, she brings a broad and nuanced understanding of patient care that spans multiple settings. Her experience as an inpatient oncology nurse, Life with Cancer nurse navigator, and home-based palliative care provider allows her to connect deeply with patients and provide compassionate, holistic support.

Shairna is deeply committed to patient-centered care and is passionate about supporting individuals and families as they navigate complex medical decisions. Her clinical approach emphasizes trauma-informed care, compassionate communication, cultural humility and equitable care delivery for all.

She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Executive Leadership (DEL) at the University of Lynchburg, with a focus on expanding access to palliative care through systems-level innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Outside of work, Shairna enjoys spending time with her family, practicing the mostly meditative but occasionally maddening art of knitting and being bossed around by a very vocal cat and two guinea pigs with strong opinions about mealtimes.
