Sharmaine McCoy is a board-certified acute care nurse practitioner. She started her career at Inova in 2005, transitioning from a bedside registered nurse (RN) to a nurse practitioner.
Sharmaine has a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA, a master’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA, and a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Hampton University in Virginia.
Sharmaine's passion for decreasing healthcare disparities and promoting health equity is evident in her work. She co-leads the ISHV Community Outreach Subcommittee, striving to provide safe, patient-centered care that enhances health literacy and empowers patients to self-manage their diagnoses. Her commitment to preventive cardiology further supports her efforts to address risk factors early and promote long-term cardiovascular health in the communities she serves.
In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, being a die-hard Dallas Cowboys fan, reading, and listening to audiobooks.
