Learning experiences:

Residents will be exposed to a wide variety of required and elective experiences. The schedule will be determined by the resident and the residency program director during the orientation period but is always subject to change. 

Required:

  • Orientation (4-5 weeks)
  • Cardiology (6-8 weeks)*
  • Primary care: 360 Concierge Medicine (6-8 weeks)
  • Primary care: Value-based care (6-8 weeks)*
  • Specialty pharmacy (4-6 weeks)*
  • System and practice management (4-6 weeks) 

Electives:

  • Solid organ transplant (6-8 weeks)*
  • Bariatrics and Obesity Medicine (6-8 weeks)*
  • Pediatrics (6-8 weeks)*
  • Oncology (6-8 weeks)*
  • Vulnerable populations (6-8 weeks)* Residents will support the unique needs of HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ+ patients at our Inova Juniper and Inova Pride clinics.

* denotes rotations that do not primarily (>75% of rotation days) take place at the main program office in Chantilly, VA. Residents are eligible for reimbursement for mileage for travel to other practice sites.   

Presentations and projects:

  • ACPE-accredited continuing education presentation
  • Practice advancement protocol  
  • Research or quality improvement project  
  • Medication use evaulation
  • Formulary monograph or drug class review (based on need) 

Teaching opportunities:

Staffing requirements:

Residents are expected to help support the Aanticoagulation (AC) Cclinic and Comprehensive Medication Management (CMM) service throughout the residency year. After completing the first clinical learning experience block, residents are required to work one 8-hour weekday clinic shift every other week. In addition, residents must complete one 8-hour weekday shift immediately before or immediately after one major and one minor holiday. Residents will alternate between the AC and CMM services during this longitudinal learning experience. during the month of December and the final week of the residency year. There are no formal evening, weekend, or holiday staffing requirements for this program. The resident is required to complete 160 staffing hours for the year.
