ICAMS provides for interprofessional collaboration of teaching and learning to enhance patient safety, teamwork, critical thinking, research and the patient experience for the diverse community that we serve. ICAMS functions within Inova Health System and works in collaboration with the Inova Department of Surgery’s Advanced Surgical Technology and Education Center (ASTEC) through an integrated network to provide a multi-disciplined, team-based training environment.

The ICAMS unit houses the following medical simulation areas:
- Six fully-integrated clinical education theatre (CET) rooms
- Labor and delivery suite with infant alcove
- Two medical-surgical inpatient rooms
- Intensive care unit (ICU) suite
- Neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) suite
- Operating suite
- Multi-purpose lab that doubles as a 4-bay emergency room
- Mock ambulance bay
ICAMS utilizes all forms of simulation including high-fidelity patient simulation, surgical virtual simulation, and low-fidelity procedural skills simulation. With standardized patient comfort in mind, ICAMS houses changing areas, lockers, refreshment and lounge areas. Though debriefing can be done inside each training area, ICAMS also has a 30-seat convertible classroom and 12-seat conference room where didactic learning and team debriefings may be conducted through the use of live and recorded video.
ICAMS is Accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare in the areas of Assessment, Systems Integration, and Teaching/Education.
