Care throughout your stay

Most patients admitted to an Inova hospital are cared for by a hospitalist—a physician who specializes in treating hospitalized patients. Unlike primary care physicians, hospitalists focus exclusively on inpatient care and are based in the hospital full time. 

Hospitalists oversee and coordinate all aspects of a patient’s care during their hospital stay. They manage treatment plans, collaborate with specialists when needed, and communicate regularly with patients and families. Because they are always on-site, hospitalists can respond quickly to changes in a patient’s condition and provide continuous, attentive care. Inova hospitalists are board-certified internal medicine physicians dedicated to delivering high-quality inpatient care.
