Inova Fairfax Medical Campus offers many opportunities for volunteer service in 45 service areas, including patient interaction, staff support and retail assignments.

Greatest need areas include Gift Shops, Treasure Trove shops, patient support services and clerical assignments.

Current service needs and availability are updated monthly and may be viewed below. You’ll have the opportunity to indicate your availability and service area preference on your application.

Registration periods for 2025

Applications are reviewed during designated registration periods throughout the calendar year. Before applying, please be sure you’ll be available to attend the corresponding mandatory orientation session and meet the attendance requirement of serving one, 3-4 hour shift per week for a minimum of six months. You’ll begin volunteering within one week of the mandatory training class.


January registration: January 22-24, 2025
Registration opens at noon on January 22 and closes at noon on January 24.

  • Mandatory Zoom information meetings: January 29, 4-5 p.m. or January 31, 9-10 a.m.
  • Mandatory training class: February 28, 9 a.m. to noon

Our greatest needs are Gift Shops and Patient Support Services, weekdays, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. or 1 p.m. - 5 p.m. The greater flexibility you have in your schedule, the more likely we will be able to accommodate you.

Yes. After you start in your assignment area, speak with your supervisor regarding the need for additional volunteer support.

You’ll be given 4-5 weeks to complete all requirements.

We'll respond to all applications within 10 days of the close of registration.

You’ll receive your I.D. badge and uniform, and you’ll be guided on a short tour of the hospital and your assignment area.

The types of volunteer requests we receive from the hospital's various service areas do not lend themselves to group activities, so we cannot absorb group volunteers.
