About Our Volunteers

Inova Loudoun hospital volunteers are men, women, young adults, and teenagers from the Northern Virginia and Loudoun County area. Each year our volunteers give more than 50,000 hours of their time to our hospital, team members, patients and visitors. Volunteer Opportunities are available for those 16 years of age and older.

Our volunteers support over 40 departments at our Lansdowne, Ashburn and Leesburg campuses. Volunteers assist team members, patients, visitors and families. Assignments require a regular commitment of one consistent volunteer shift per week for a minimum period of six months.

Opportunities Include:

  • Assisting with answering phones, helping to make copies, file, and assist with data entry and clerical support
  • Interacting with visitors, patients and guests; helping with directions; answering questions, providing information and helping in our gift shop
  • Helping in our clinical areas with stocking patient rooms with supplies, assisting with directions, speaking with patients, families, and visitors, and making kits for team members
  • Assisting at our Inova Nursing and Rehabilitation Center with specific resident activities and special events

HELP at Inova Loudoun Hospital

The Hospital Elder Life Program (HELP) works to improve the hospital experience by preventing delirium and functional decline in older patients. Coping with the stress of illness and disruption of normal routines can prolong hospital stays. HELP team members and volunteers offer assistance and activities that keep patients mentally and physically active. This extra attention enhances patient comfort and helps them to maintain their independence while hospitalized.

HELP volunteers visit patients three times a day, seven days a week at no charge. We work closely with nurses and physicians to support patients 70 years and older who have some risk factors for delirium or function/cognitive decline.

By helping to prevent delirium and functional decline, volunteers have the unique opportunity to positively touch the lives of older patients and their families. If you’re interested in volunteering for this particular program, please contact Raya Iqbal, raya.iqbal@inova.org or 703-858-6547.
