At the time of his retirement from the CIA in 2019, he was the senior-most medical authority at the CIA and provided expert advice and unique services to advance its mission and protect its officers and assets throughout the world. He served as a close advisor to multiple CIA directors.

As Director of the Office of Medical Services, Dr. Braverman led a worldwide organization providing essential patient care and modernizing multimillion-dollar programs that brought better medicine to diverse populations in varied and often arduous conditions. He led the CIA’s response to threats including anthrax, avian influenza and Ebola, ensuring practical safeguards were employed and that patients received clear and effective communications on keeping them safe.

He created the CIA’s first secure telemedicine capability, making medical and psychological support available worldwide and brought tactical medical support, field surgical capability and medevac access to CIA paramilitary officers. While the details of many of his assignments remain classified, Dr. Braverman is permitted to confirm that nearly a decade of his career was spent overseas including service as director of the CIA’s Western European Medevac Center, which supervised medical evacuations in Europe, Africa and Central Asia. Additionally, he had tours of duty as a regional medical officer in Africa, South America and Europe. He managed clandestine operational medical support across Africa, the Near East, South America and Western Europe.

Prior to joining the CIA, Dr. Braverman was an urgent care and emergency room physician at a variety of locations in New Jersey and was a police physician for five years. He joined the agency because of a desire to serve his nation and his patients and satisfy his sense of adventure.

After leaving the CIA, Dr. Braverman became Vice President for Business Development at Vigilint, a global telemedicine and medical advisory company. He received his medical degree from Temple University in Philadelphia and his bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College in Oberlin, OH. Dr. Braverman is the recipient of the CIA Director’s Award, the Don Cryer Diversity Award and numerous other citations.
