Changes to telemedicine coverage for Medicare patients

Effective October 1, 2025, several telemedicine flexibilities for patients have expired. For patients insured by a government program, this impacts any upcoming virtual visits with your healthcare provider.

Over their three years at the Inova Fairfax Medical Campus, our residents manage a spectrum of acute and chronic illnesses and are exposed to advanced cardiac and pulmonary disease, including transplant medicine. They are guided through their residency by a dedicated, expert, and enthusiastic faculty of attending hospitalists, primary care providers, and subspecialists. Inova’s large and complementary ancillary staff is truly supportive, augmenting the resident experience by allowing them to focus on acute patient care. These factors result in a superb high-value educational environment in which an internal medicine physician-in-training can thrive.

We look forward to meeting you and good luck on the interview trail!

Dr. Axucillia Moyo and Dr. Andy-Bleck Nwancha, Chief Medical Residents

Program information

The Internal Medicine Residency Program at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus will now be accepting 13 categorical interns annually. While we preferentially review applications from those who signal our program, we also consider applicants who do not signal us. All qualified applicants are considered for interviews, however, due to the large number of applications we receive, we are not able to offer an interview to all qualified candidates.

The deadline to submit applications for our Internal Medicine Residency Program is November 15. We will not review applications submitted after this date.  Interviews for postgraduate year 1 (PGY-1) positions, which begin in July, are conducted from late October through early January.

Interview Invitations: Invitations will be released on a rolling basis through early January.  We extend invitations only for the number of interview slots available—if you receive an invitation, your interview slot is guaranteed. Unless you’ve received a message indicating that your application is no longer being considered, you remain on our waitlist.

NOTE: We do not have minimum test score requirements. Each application is carefully reviewed holistically by our faculty.

Second-look visits and rank list policy

Committed to application equity

We understand that many applicants may wish to visit their prospective residency site in person before finalizing their rank list. At the same time, we are committed to ensuring equity in the application process and avoiding any advantage or disadvantage based on an applicant’s ability to travel.

Our program will be participating in the NRMP Voluntary Rank Order List (ROL) Lock Pilot. More information about this initiative can be found HERE. Our rank list will be locked and certified by February 9, 2026. We will host two second-look visits after this date, and these visits will not influence our ranking decisions in any way.

We anticipate that most applicants will choose not to attend a second-look visit. Details about these visits will be shared directly with candidates who are invited to interview.
