Admissions

Inova has been involved for decades in the selection of our future physicians. Inova Faculty are members of UVA’s Admissions Committee and participate in reviewing applicant files, conducting interviews and voting on candidates for medical school. Fourth year Inova Campus medical students will have opportunities to become members of the Admissions Committee.

Inova has a long history of serving its community through events aimed at introducing local high school students to medical futures. Each year we hold several sessions for students and their parents to get advice from medical school admissions committee members and listen to the medical school journeys that several of our students have gone through.

Prospective students who would like to learn more about the Inova Campus as well as take a tour are invited to visit the Inova Campus during the admissions process. These sessions are led by our Inova Campus Admissions Liaison and current medical students.

Student Experience

The UVA School of Medicine, Inova Campus is located in Falls Church, Virginia about 16 miles west of Washington, DC. The Falls Church area location boasts of a late 1600 Colonial history shared with Native Americans that have given rise to a modern 21st century city. This modern area has promoted ‘smart’ growth, community identity, tourism and economic development. There is quick access to the nation’s capital via the Capital Beltway Outer Loop 495 and the Dunn Loring Metro (Orange Line).

Being near Washington DC, allows for easy access to where the medical, health policy and economic issues are debated daily in many arenas with resolutions that shape the practice of medicine in the United States. For example medical students have taken the opportunity to attend the Senate Finance Committee hearing regarding the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

The cultural and social opportunities of the nation's capital are endless. The Smithsonian Institution, including such facilities as the Museum of Natural History, the Joseph Hirschhorn Museum, the Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of African Art, and the Sackler and Freer Museums of Asian art, are just a few examples of places to visit. To view the performing arts there are several close by theaters to include the John F. Kennedy Center and Wolf Trap National Park. There are many more resources available close to the campus both in Virginia and the Washington DC area.

Being in Northern Virginia places you very close to the home of the Washington football team, the Nationals baseball team, the Wizards basketball team and the NHL's Capitals team. Recreational opportunities are plentiful in the northern Virginia area through Fairfax County as well as having close proximity to both the Appalachian Mountains and the Atlantic coast. All are just a few hours’ drive from campus.

Financial Aid

The Inova Campus Assistant Dean of Student Affairs works closely with the financial aid office to coordinate:

  • Debt management counseling presentations
  • 1:1 Federal Student Loan Counseling for M4 students
  • Home-buying seminar and financial planning sessions
  • Additional sessions related to financial aid as requested by students

In addition to local Inova Campus sessions, students may choose to connect remotely to financial aid sessions held at the main campus.

Financial aid services for all students will be through the SoM Office of Financial Aid in Charlottesville. The majority of support and counseling is done electronically or by phone. Videoconferencing is also available. Exit interviews will be performed on site at Inova by members of the Charlottesville office.
