System Division Chief

Mehul A. Desai, MD, leads the team of physicians and advanced practice providers (APP) who support critical care and pulmonary services across Inova via the medicine service line. Dr. Desai strives for clinical excellence by developing a seamless, system-wide, collaborative model of care for critical care and pulmonary services. He also aims to expand quality outcomes and academic research within critical care and pulmonary services. Dr. Desai has been with Inova since 2016 and currently serves as Inova's Critical Care Director of Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). During his time at Inova, Dr. Desai has worked to develop the extracorporeal life support program into one of the premier ECMO programs in the country. Dr. Desai is actively involved in education for adult practitioners through the American College of Chest Physicians and the American Thoracic Society.
