Our ultimate goal is to improve health outcomes in patients with cardiovascular disease. Our dedicated specialized program actively provides exceptional care to cardiovascular patients and their families affected by inheritable genetic diseases—conditions linked to our biological fingerprint or DNA, as well as other environmental or acquired factors.

Medical Directors

Mitchell Cohen, MD, FACC, FHRS

Mitchell Cohen, MD, FACC, FHRS, is the current Co-Director of the Pediatric Heart Program and Chief of Pediatric Cardiology at Inova L.J. Murphy Children's Hospital. Dr. Cohen is a pediatric and adult congenital electrophysiologist. He joined Inova Children's Hospital in 2017 from Phoenix Children's Hospital, where he served as Co-Director of Phoenix Children's Heart Center for 12 years.

Palak Shah, MD, MS

Palak Shah, MD, MS, a board-certified cardiologist specializing in advanced heart failure, and collaborates with a highly talented multidisciplinary team to bring cutting-edge genetics to the bedside of patients with cardiovascular disease. Additionally, he leads a translational lab focusing on novel genomic biomarkers to enhance the management of patients with heart disease.

Rebecca Miller is co-founder of the Inova Cardiovascular Genetics Clinic. She received her bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her master of science in human genetics and genetic counseling from the University of Cincinnati.

Akos is a Pediatric and Cardiovascular Genetic Counselor in the Inova Genetics Department. He received his bachelor of science in sport and exercise medical sciences from King's College London and his master's in human genetics and genetic counseling from Emory University School of Medicine.
