2025 Best Workplaces for Commuters Award

Inova Center for Personalized Health has been awarded the 2025 Best Workplaces for Commuters Award. 

Thanks to a comprehensive assessment from the Fairfax County Dept. of Transportation, Inova has been recognized as one of 12 employers for offering a variety of commuter-friendly services including shuttle buses to the metro, inter-campus shuttles, nearby bus stops, bike storage, and EV charging stations. 

This prestigious award highlights employers who champion eco-friendly commuting options, benefiting not only our employees’ mental well-being but also reducing strain on transit systems and contributing to a healthier environment.

What Have We Done for the Earth Lately?

  • In recognition for its achievement and innovation in healthcare sustainability, Inova received 2023 Environmental Excellence Awards at all five hospitals and the System for Change Award from Practice Greenhealth, the nation's leading organization dedicated to environmental sustainability in healthcare. These awards recognize health systems, hospital facilities, health sector suppliers and member organizations for their work on waste minimization, green buildings, alternative transportation, sustainable purchasing and more.
  • Launched meadow restoration project at Inova Loudon hospital that converts 4.7 acres to native grasses, flowers, and shrubs to serve as critical habitat for local wildlife.
  • Distributed 1,000 tree saplings to team members that will be planted across the region to help support replenishment of the northern Virginia tree canopy.
  • Increased sustainably certified food purchases in Inova hospital cafeterias by 65,758 pounds, a 16% increase over the previous year.
  • Inova team members purchased more than $68,000 worth of local and sustainable foods through our Community Supported Agriculture offering.
  • Inova sourced 43,299 computers, laptops, monitors, printers, etc. 100% of these electronic items are EPEAT and/or Energy Star certified.
  • Collaborated with the design and construction team to install electric vehicle charging stations at Inova headquarters parking garages.
  • Initiated decarbonization study at the 5 Inova hospitals to identify key strategies to reduce energy use and carbon emissions.
  • Increased recycling by 395,394 pounds, a 12.5% increase in 2022.
  • Reduced regulated medical waste by 135,375 pounds, a 9% reduction in 2022.
