Nurse Residency Program at Inova Loudoun Hospital

Translate

young nurse smiling Transitioning from nursing school to your nursing career is both an exciting and anxious time. Developing critical decision-making skills, becoming socially acclimated to hospital culture and growing as a member our renowned Inova care team can be overwhelming.

To bridge the gap between being a new graduate and a distinguished nurse, Inova has partnered with Vizient/AACN to implement a Nursing Residency Program™ (NRP). Fulfilling the Inova Promise, every time, every touch, begins with ensuring that our new nurses receive support allowing them to focus on their patients and their journey to become a proud member of our Inova care team.

The Nurse Residency Program (NRP) is a one-year, evidence-based program designed to support the transition of the new Inova nurse. Residents will participate in monthly interactive seminars offering the opportunity to expand skills related to clinical reasoning, communication and leadership skills. Residents will participate in an evidence-based practice project improving patient care. The program employs valid and reliable tools to measure the resident’s confidence, competence, and acclimation into professional practice at prescribed intervals.

Nurse Residency Program Goals

The NRP is designed to support the transition of a new graduate nurse from an advanced beginner to a competent nurse. Program goals include:

  • Apply foundational nursing knowledge to the Inova Care Delivery Model.
  • Advance critical thinking and decision-making skills.
  • Enhance communication skills.
  • Complete an evidence based practice project.
  • Actively participate with peers to discuss personal challenges, seek advice, and build relationships.
  • Cultivate self-confidence and self-assurance as a caregiver.
